Mission

In collaboration with the association's committee, the volunteer head of the education division is responsible for monitoring educational projects and developing the association's pedagogical support strategy in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with a particular focus on Sainte-Léontine School, which mainly welcomes refugee students. Their mission will be to initiate and coordinate actions aimed at improving the quality of education provided and strengthening the capacities of local educational stakeholders.

Main tasks

  • Educational strategy development:

    • Develop the overall educational strategy for the association in the DRC, in collaboration with local partners.

    • Identify the specific needs of the school and define the educational objectives to be achieved.

    • Ensure coordination between the various stakeholders involved in the projects (local partners, donors, volunteers).

  • Capacity building:

    • To organize training and skills development programs for teachers.

    • To assist in the development of contextually relevant teaching materials.

  • Management of construction and equipment projects:

    • Overseeing school construction and renovation projects: ensuring deadlines and budgets are met, in collaboration with local partners.

    • Overseeing the acquisition and distribution of school equipment (benches, desks, blackboards, etc.).

  • Communication and advocacy:

    • Represent the association at education-related events.

    • Raise awareness among the general public and donors about education challenges in the DRC.

  • Fundraising:

    • Identify new funding sources for educational projects.

    • Draft grant applications and financial reports.

Desired profile

  • Education: Degree in education, international development, or a related field.

  • Experience: Professional experience in the field of education (ideally in an international context).

Skills

  • Understanding of education challenges in crisis and development contexts.

  • Pedagogical and training facilitation skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English.

  • Proficiency in computer tools (Office suite, project management software).

Personal qualities

  • Rigor, autonomy, organizational skills, adaptability, team spirit.

Interests

  • Passion for education and international solidarity.

  • Interest in the technical aspects of school construction and development.

Terms

  • Contract: Volunteer (possibility of a volunteer certificate).

  • Duration: 1 year, renewable.

  • Estimated time commitment: Approximately 2 hours per week.

  • Workplace: Primarily remote, with the possibility of regular in-person meetings and potential travel to Congo.

Recruitment Process

This onboarding period will allow you to discover our tools and working methods for a successful integration into Avenir Congo's projects and to meet the various team members.
