Mission

In collaboration with the association's committee, the volunteer institutional relations manager is responsible for developing and implementing the association's institutional relations strategy, both in Switzerland and in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Their mission will be to represent the association to authorities, international organizations, and donors, in order to defend the interests of the association's target group, specifically, children and unemployed people in vulnerable situations, including refugees in the eastern DRC.

Main tasks

  • Institutional representation:

    • Represent the association to Swiss authorities (FSO, FDFA) and Congolese authorities (government, civil society organizations).

    • Participate in conferences, seminars, and meetings on issues related to refugees and development.

  • Advocacy:

    • Develop and implement an advocacy strategy for children and vulnerable populations in eastern DRC.

    • Develop partnerships with international organizations (UNHCR, OCHA, etc.) and NGO networks.

    • Draft position papers, press releases, and activity reports.

  • Resource mobilization:

    • Identify new funding sources for the association's projects.

    • Draft grant applications and financial reports.

  • Communication:

    • Manage the association's communication with the media, donors, and institutions.

Desired profile

  • Education: Degree in international relations, political science, law, or a related field.

  • Experience: Professional experience in international cooperation or public relations.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of humanitarian issues and matters related to the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

  • Proficiency in communication and negotiation techniques.

  • Excellent writing and summarization skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English (and ideally in Swahili).

  • Proficiency in computer tools (Office suite, project management software).

  • Personal qualities: rigor, sense of organization and planning, strong networking skills, team spirit.

Terms

  • Contract: Volunteer (possibility of a volunteer certificate).

  • Duration: 1 year, renewable.

  • Estimated time commitment: Approximately 2 hours per week.

  • Workplace: Primarily remote, with the possibility of regular in-person meetings and potential travel to Congo.

Recruitment process

This onboarding period will allow you to discover our tools and working methods for a successful integration into Avenir Congo's projects and to meet the various team members.
